Looking for a home for yourself or a senior aged loved one to assist in your/their care needs can be a very difficult process and decision. With so many options out there, it can be difficult to find the right one. Whether you are looking for a nursing home, retirement home, memory care facility, or (in our opinion the best choice) an Adult Family Home, there needs to be many things confirmed in your search to guarantee you are making the right choice. We wanted to provide all of those in search of a new care home a check list of items to confirm to make sure you are choosing the right home and environment to meet your needs. These are questions you should ask or observations you should make while touring the home.

Many of these items can easily be forgotten or overlooked but can end up being very important. For example, homes are not legally obligated to have air conditioning in a residents room. Our home has air condition in all of our rooms, but we heard of many facilities (including large assisted living and memory care facilities) that do not. This left many of the aging population overheating during our summer heat waves. Another important question to ask about is a homes ability to continue to care for the resident. Many homes will need residents to move out because they do not have lift equipment to care for heavy care patients or are not comfortable working with hospice. The Promised Land Adult Family Home is a full term through end of life care facility that under almost all circumstances can continue to care for our residents regardless of condition progression.
Feel free to print this off and bring this along with you when you go to tour new home options.
